HTC came up with the Desire 600 a while back and it was a pretty good device. This new device, the HTC Desire 601 looks somewhat similar to it at first glance. HTC has got some really good devices even the low end ones are pretty good. Their devices are very well built and no matter how the HTC Desire 601price is set, they are worth it. They have got the excellent Sense UI treatment for android device and the new ones get the cool blink feed and HTC Zoe feature. This new device, despite being a mid-range device, has got a lot of features you see on high end devices.
The device has got a family resemblance but still it looks fresh. Below the 4.5 inch display, you get the capacitive keys like on most new HTC devices. The device has resemblance to the flagship HTC One but unlike the One, it is made out of plastic. But plastic doesn’t mean that it feels cheap. The built quality is top notch and the device feels exactly what a HTC device should feel like. In some colours, it might deceive some people. The back panel curves nicely which makes it easier to hold. It measures 134.5 x 66.7 x 9.9 mm. Being almost 10 mm thick, the device isn’t exactly slim but they have designed it well to make sure it doesn’t look fat. The weight is good too at just 130 Gms.
It has got speakers that sit on either side of the screen like the One or One mini. The couple of speakers would ensure that you get proper stereo sound when you hold the device in landscape orientation. The device is on offer in three colours, red, white and black.
The device has got a 4.5 inch display with a resolution of 540 x 960. This gives it a pixel density of 245 pixels per inch. The pixel density isn’t very high but it isn’t bad either. The display is reasonably sharp and you won’t be able to spot the pixels even on sharp text. The display reproduces colours very well and the contrast ratios are good too. It uses a SLCD2 display which is decent. The viewing angles are quite good and if you set the brightness right, you would be able to read the content on the display in sunlight.
The device runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a dual core processor. The maximum clock speed is 1.4 GHz. It gets the Adreno 305 GPU and 1 GB of RAM which makes it quite a decent hardware. You get 8 GB of internal storage and they have provided the option to expand the storage using micro SD card as 8 GB won’t be enough for most people. Apart from the usual 2G and 3G bands, this device also supports a large number of 4G bands. Support for 4G networks is a new addition to the Desire series and until now, it has been limited to high end devices only. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and Micro USB 2.0. It has got stereo speakers with built it amplifiers and the sound from them is pretty good. The device is powered by a 2100 mAh battery.
The device has got a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. As it is a mid-range device, the ultrapixel camera want really expected here. Still the camera is pretty good and the numbers won’t define what it is. It has got a large aperture to allow more light while clicking pictures and the pixel size being 1.4 micrometer is larger as compared to most cameras. The camera performs well in well-lit conditions and even the low light photos are considerably better than what you get from other 5 megapixel cameras.
The phone runs android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The android is not even remotely stock and it gets the HTC Sense treatment like all other HTC devices. This device runs the latest version of HTC Sense UI which also incorporates the BlinkFeed home screen. The interface is neat and has got lot more features and apps as compared to vanilla android. The operating system runs very smooth on the hardware and there are no lags at all. You can also enjoy some high end games on this device as it has got a good GPU too. There would be no issues at all with the software on this device.
HTC Desire 601 price isn’t clear yet but as it is a mid-range device, the number would be relatively small. The device looks great and has got some really cool features which you otherwise get to see on high end devices. Also you get the superb BoomSound speakers. The device is impressive for sure and it would stand out in a crowd of similarly specced devices. We can’t draw a clear verdict about this device until we get a word on the pricing but until now, the device looks promising.
