Nokia has officially taken the wraps off its latest budget smartphone, the Lumia 510 putting it somewhere between the Asha range and the Lumia 610. With the notable exception of the 4-inch (480 x 800) screen, which is a tad larger than its slightly more accomplished Windows Phone sibling, the other specs are very much in line with its low-cost stance: there's a single 5-megapixel shooter at the back (no front-facer), a lowly 800MHz Qualcomm processor, 256MB RAM and 4GB of non-expandable storage. Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of its 4G services in Pune, months after the company rolled out the fourth generation mobile services in Kolkata and Bengaluru. Airtel's 4G services are currently available for postpaid users in Pune; for prepaid customers the services will be launched shortly.
Airtel customers in Pune can now use Airtel 4G LTE modems to start using the LTE network. The dongle for accessing 4G network on laptops and PCs is priced at Rs. 4,999 and comes with monthly usage charges.

Microsoft opened its Windows 8 operating system for pre-orders on Friday in the United States, setting the price for the full version of the software at $70 for a DVD pack. Users can also wait for launch on October 26 to download the system onto their computers for $40, an offer price that will expire at the end of January.

There have been reports of users seeing a purple flare in images taken from iPhone 5. According to media reports, several users have complained to Apple that the images taken from the iPhone 5 have a purple colored ring around any bright light, while the cameras of the previous phones remain unaffected by the problem.

US officials said that they shut down a series of so-called tech support scams, mostly operating from India, which duped consumers into paying to clean their computers of bogus virus infections. The Federal Trade Commission said a US judge has ordered a halt to six "scareware" operations and has frozen their assets following an investigation in cooperation with Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

The auction giant eBay today is taking one more step in its transformation into a wider online marketplace. It has launched a new service in the UK called Secretguru– a concierge-style service where people can buy time from professionals in areas ranging from cooking to business mentoring and beauty. The move puts eBay into the territory of collaborative consumption services like TaskRabbit, Zaarly and Care.com, and it is a sign of how it’s looking to extend its operations further into brands beyond that of eBay itself.
