Bharti Airtel in India has been asked to pay one of its postpaid subscriber Rs.25,000 as compensation for blocking his number and asking for fresh documents for verification even though he was a 6 year old postpaid customer.
Manoj Kumar Sharma, a school teacher by profession also asked airtel to collect fresh documents from his home but nobody from airtel came and all his outgoing calls were blocked. He clarified that without any legit documents he could not have been issued a postpaid connection earlier, then why did airtel stop his connection even though everything was perfect from his side.
"It is a clear case of deficiency on the part of opposite party to harass the subscriber (Manoj Sharma) without any rhyme or reason. Opposite party is directed to pay Rs.25,000 as harrasment, mental agony and litigation charges as the consumer has been suffering without any valid reasons since 2009" the bench at New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum presided by C K Chaturvedi said.
